Creating a project

Figure 5.1: Toolbar. Fast access to create a new project, open an existing project, saving current project, doing measurements, and exiting Metria CityModeler

Figure 5.2: When the New button is pressed in the toolbar or File->New is chosen in the main menu, you are asked if you want to create a CityModeler project or a DSM project. Choose Metria CityModeler project. You may also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+N to open the project selection dialog.

Figure 5.3: When Metria CityModeler is started, you can choose to create a new CityModeler project, create a DSM, pan sharpen an image, set image cache size or start logging to file in the Project menu.

In order to create a 3D City Model, you need two very high resolution (VHR) satellite scenes and (optionally) a digital surface model (DSM).

To best utilize the automatic height matching, a DSM should be included. Furthermore, it is recommended that the DSM is generated with the integrated WiMap DSM generator. Help for WiMap DSM is available in a separate "book" in the help system. However, Metria CityModeler does not require a DSM and since it may be quite time consuming to create, you may prefer a less robust height matching requiring more interactive measurements.

The Metria CityModeler Wizard makes sure that you have the required input and in the required format. The wizard guides you through each step and checks the validity of the input.

The wizard lets you define mandatory information to create a project. There are many additional settings, which you may want to set, in the settings dialog.

To run the wizard, choose Project->city modeling wizard... in the menu bar or click the new project icon. The wizard starts and shows its first page. It contains some general information and allows you to fill in the name of the project file.
